Change comes from people and communities, and needs to be consistent with culture and climate
Change is coming – whether these are changes to agricultural practices or natural-resource management by major industries or village farmers, changes in the way we generate electricity from fossil fuels to renewables, or even changes to the way we eat, or the cars we drive. But these take time, and ordinary citizens need not only be willing to accept these changes, but also be supported in their capacity to implement them.
At Rationale, we come from diverse backgrounds with decades-long engagement in international and national policy processes, working with UN agencies, intergovernmental organisations, civil society and indigenous networks around the world.
From many years of engagement, we have become aware of the inaction by some governments and industries to address the climate emergency. We want to enable transformative action.
We have become aware of the knowledge gap for people on the ground seeking to make sense of international and national policy and legal changes. We want to help bridge this gap.
We understand the capacity of smaller, less-resourced countries to meet the high standards required to access financial resources. We want to provide accessible solutions.
We understand theories of change and the complexities associated with climate and biodiversity policy processes, stakeholder consultations, securing free prior and informed consent, and relevant laws and regulations. We want to support their meaningful implementation.
The science is clear. We recognise and are prepared to play our part to support change in this climate and biodiversity emergency. We want to share our expert knowledge and provide advice to enable pathways through the design and implementation of projects, programmes, policies and law.
